Requirements for Laser Eye Surgery

To determine whether you're a suitable candidate for laser eye surgery, we recommend a free, no-obligation initial consultation. During this appointment, we’ll assess whether you meet the necessary criteria.

Minimum Age: 18 Years

Laser eye surgery is only performed from the age of 18.

Until that point – and often even beyond – the development of the eyes is not yet completed. Your final visual acuity may still change significantly over time. Laser eye surgery performed too early can lead to recurring vision problems.

Laser Treatment up to 63 Years

Laser eye surgery is possible at older ages; however, presbyopia often develops from around age 45. This can be corrected using a specialized laser method (PresbyMAX).

Stable Vision

Another prerequisite is stable visual acuity. Your current prescription should not have changed for at least twelve months. We’ll determine this stability during your preliminary examinations.

Healthy Eyes Required

Your eyes must be free of inflammation or other ocular diseases. Pre-existing conditions such as corneal damage or retinal detachment exclude you from treatment. Laser surgery is also typically not recommended in cases of dry eye syndrome (Sicca syndrome).
