The ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) is a modern and gentle method for correcting refractive errors at any age – an alternative to laser eye surgery.

Unlike LASIK (e.g., FEMTO-LASIK), which permanently alters the corneal tissue, ICL preserves the eye’s natural structure. Instead, an ultra-thin lens is implanted in addition to the body’s own lens. This treatment is reversible: the implanted lens can be removed or replaced if necessary.

Each ICL is custom-made for the individual patient. The lenses are composed of a biocompatible Collamer material that is well tolerated by the body.

Another advantage: ICL is especially suitable for people with severe nearsightedness or farsightedness, or with corneas that are too thin – making it an ideal option when laser surgery is not possible.

Every treatment begins with a non-binding and free initial consultation. During this appointment, we assess your suitability and discuss the expected outcomes in detail.

Preliminary Examinations

Using state-of-the-art technology, we perform comprehensive preliminary examinations and take time for both diagnostics and your questions. If we jointly decide on the ICL method, we will inform you in detail about the steps before and after the procedure.

On the Day of Treatment

On the day of your treatment, we kindly ask you not to wear makeup, face cream, perfume, or aftershave, as these may irritate the eyes. You can eat and drink normally before the procedure. Before we begin, we’ll gladly answer any final questions and explain the next steps.

Intraocular lenses (IOLs) are artificial lenses that, unlike traditional contact lenses, are implanted inside the eye to correct refractive errors. They cannot shift, are not visible from the outside, and are completely unnoticeable to the patient. Depending on the type of visual impairment, lifestyle, and eye structure, different lens types can be selected: monofocal, multifocal, or toric lenses. This selection is made individually and can be determined during a free and non-binding initial consultation.

Intraocular lenses are designed to remain in the eye permanently and provide a long-term solution. The procedure is fundamentally reversible – the lenses can be removed if necessary.

During lens implantation, a small incision is made. Through this incision, the artificial lens is inserted into the eye in a folded state and precisely positioned between the natural lens and the iris.

A noticeable improvement in vision is usually evident as early as the day after ICL implantation. However, for optimal healing, we recommend refraining from work and physically demanding activities during the first few days.

Intraocular lenses (IOLs) are made of collagen and are specifically designed for long-term use in the eye. They are generally very well tolerated. In rare cases, mild irritation may occur – in such instances, the lens can be easily removed.
